RCCF Receives Grant From Lilly Scholars Network

The funds will expand on an existing training program for teachers launched by Genesis: Pathways to Success.

(Indianapolis, Ind.) – The Ripley County Community Foundation has been selected as one of 10 organizations that will receive a grant from the Lilly Scholars Network.

In collaboration with Independent Colleges of Indiana, Inc., the Lilly Scholars Network has announced that grants totaling $22,812 were awarded to fund initial projects.

The Ripley County Community Foundation will receive $2,500 to prepare teachers for the unique mental health challenges faced by students, and to expand on an existing training program for teachers launched by Genesis: Pathways to Success.

The new module will focus on Social Emotional Learning, Trauma, Stress and Anxiety.

Scholar partners from Ripley County include: Eric Benz, 2001 scholar; Christina Record White, 2001 scholar; and Holly Toops Swinney, 2005 scholar.

“Covid-19 has placed unique stressors on our academic system, teachers, and students. This grant will allow us to develop and enhance mental health resources that will give school personnel the tools and knowledge needed to recognize and manage vulnerabilities within their students and classrooms,” said Amy Streator, Executive Director of the Ripley County Community Foundation. “Our Mental Health and Trauma Informed Practices program will ensure that every student has a safe environment conducive to learning. We are grateful to the Lilly Scholars Network for supporting quality education for all.”
