(Batesville, Ind.) – Racing has officially gotten the green flag at the former Batesville Airport and not everyone is happy about it.

Infinite-Speed’s “Ultimate Half-Mile Shootout” took place at the old airstrip on Enochsburg Road north of Batesville on July 14-15.

About 20 racecars and 200 spectators attended the event, with one driver traveling from as far as Ontario, Canada, reports the Franklin County Observer Newsletter.

While the event appears to have been a success, several area residents including nearby farmers, complained about the lack of access to Three Mile Road.

One farmer said he uses Three Mile Road dozens of times a day and objected to having to wait while the road was shutdown for periods of time between 9:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. while racing occurred.

Some residents believe the issue could become worse as racing is planned to take place every other weekend.

However, County Commissioners said the traffic problems were caused by miscommunication.
