The Indiana Department of Environmental Management is investigating after a truck hit a fuel pump, causing a spill.
(Greendale, Ind.) - A truck driver caused a petroleum spill at a local fuel station.
The Indiana Department of Environmental Management says petroleum was released or spilled from an underground storage tank or in the area at Kennett Truck Stop on U.S. 50-Eads Parkway in Greendale. IDEM was notified of the release or spill on Monday, August 19. Public notification, which is required, was issued Thursday.
Property owner Adam Kennett says a semi truck trailer struck a diesel fuel pump at the truck stop on August 7. The driver then drove away.
Only about 30 gallons of fuel were spilled from the damaged pump, but IDEM requires any spills over 25 gallons to be reported. Kennett said about 20 gallons of fuel got into the soil, but his company hired an environmental engineer and dug up the affected soil.
"I want people to be informed and know that it was dealt with and we did the right thing," said Kennett.
