Petersburg Couple ID'ed As Victims Of Boone Co. Crash

James and Cheyenne Harrison died at the scene of the crash on Burlington Pike Tuesday.

(Boone County, Ky.) - A husband and wife from Petersburg are dead after a head-on crash in Burlington.

Boone County sheriff's deputies say James and Cheyenne Harrison were in a 2005 Kia Sedona minivan that rear-ended a 2016 Honda Civic about 11:30 Tuesday morning in the 4300 block of Burlington Pike, causing their vehicle to slam into an oncoming 2000 Freightliner dump truck.

Deputies say the Harrisons died at the crash scene. James was 31 and Cheyenne was 30.

Crash investigators have not determined which of the Harrisons were driving the Sedona.

According to a news release from the sheriff’s office, “The Kia Sedona, operated by either James or Cheyenne Harrison, approached the rear of the Honda Civic at an unknown speed. It’s believed that one of the Harrisons attempted to avoid a collision with the rear of Wallace’s vehicle, but was unable to. The Kia Sedona struck the rear, driver’s side bumper of the Honda Civic as the Sedona crossed the double yellow line into the eastbound lane of Burlington Pike. The Freightliner dump truck was traveling eastbound on Burlington Pike and struck the Sedona head on. The impact caused the dump truck and Sedona to overturn on the roadway.”

The truck driver, Bernard Vaske, 46, of Burlington, and the driver of the Civic, Krisin Wallace, 54, of Florence, were each hospitalized with non-life threatening injuries.

The crash closed Burlington Pike for about 4 ½ hours Tuesday.
