(Covington, Ky.) – A routine bridge inspection is set to begin Thursday on the Brent Spence Bridge, according to the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet.

As required by the Federal Highway Administration, this routine inspection takes place on the Brent Spence Bridge every two years, with the last inspection taking place in August 2022.

Schedule of Work

Thursday, August 29 (Ohio traffic impacts): beginning at 11:00 p.m., a single left lane will be closed on the combined ramps from I-75 southbound and U.S. 50 eastbound to Second Street. All lanes reopen at 5:00 a.m.

Sunday, September 8 through Saturday, September 14 (Kentucky traffic impacts): Interstates 71/75 northbound single lane closure beginning at 8:00 p.m. A double lane closure will be in place each night beginning at the following times:

  • Sunday, Sept. 8: 9:30 p.m.
  • Monday, Sept. 9 through Wednesday, Sept. 11: 10 p.m.
  • Thursday, Sept. 12: 10:30 p.m.
  • Friday, Sept. 13: 11:30 p.m.
  • Saturday, Sept. 14: 11 p.m.

Lane closures (Kentucky side) will begin one mile south of the approach to the Brent Spence Bridge (mile point 191) and run the length of the bridge. All lanes will reopen by 5 a.m. Once inspection work on the right side of the bridge has been completed, work will switch to the left side.

Sunday, Sept. 8 through Saturday, Sept. 14 (Ohio traffic impacts): I-75 southbound single lane closure beginning at 8 p.m. A double lane closure will be in place each night beginning at 9 p.m. All lanes will reopen by 5 a.m.

The lane closures are expected to impact traffic on I-71 and I-75 in Ohio and Kentucky approaching the bridge. Motorists are advised to seek alternate routes, such as I-471, I-71, or I-275 while this important work is performed. This work is being performed overnight to minimize traffic disruptions.
