Aurora Fire provided an update on Wednesday regarding Monday's incident on Lincoln Street.

Bodycam footage from an Aurora Police officer responding to the structure fire with entrapment at 172 Lincoln Street on Monday, August 25 at 8:08pm. Downstairs tenant, Arnold Lathrop, 77, is in stable condition at the University of Cincinnati Hospital. He is being treated for smoke inhalation and minor burns to his arms and legs. Indiana State Fire Marshalls office has ruled this fire accidental but cannot rule out the use or disposal of smoking materials

(Aurora, Ind.) - On Monday, August 25, 2025, at approximately 8:08 p.m., Aurora Fire Department was dispatched to Lincoln Street reference a working structure fire with entrapment.
Upon arrival, firefighters learned that the fire was in the basement apartment on the back side of the house. They went to the back part of the house to gain entry but had an issue due to the victim, a 77 year old male that collapsed in front of the door and was blocking the entrance.
APD and EMS crew were able to gain entry and pull the victim to safety. Upon the first engines arrival, a hose line was deployed, and the firefighters made entry into the apartment and were able to extinguish the flames in the bedroom apartment.
The 77 year-old male was flown to University of Cincinnati hospital by University Air Care for burns to the arms and smoke inhalation. Damage estimate $50,000.
Assisting the Aurora Fire Department was Dearborn County Communication Center, Aurora EMS, Lawrenceburg FD, Greendale FD, Hogan FD, Rising Sun FD, and Lawrenceburg EMS. Manchester Fire also staged on 148 to cover any further calls in the area.
The fire is still under investigation. The Indiana State Fire Marshalls office was contacted and will be on scene on Tuesday to further investigate.
