One Dead, One in Custody After Shooting in Dillsboro

Details released regarding the incident and pursuit.

(Dillsboro, Ind.) - Multiple agencies responded to the Dillsboro area on Thursday to aid in a search for a person of interest in a death investigation. 

It was around 5:41 a.m. when the Dearborn County Sheriff's Office was dispatched to the area of U.S. 50 near Campo Verde Drive and Gilday Drive in Dillsboro after a caller reported they heard gunshots. The caller also reported a blue vehicle heading east on U.S. 50

A second caller reported the blue SUV pulled down Texas Gas Road with two occupants including one that was lying down in the seat. 

At approximately 5:55 a.m., a member of the Dearborn County Sheriff's Office observed a vehicle with Kentucky registration stopped in the roadway on Hueseman Road and after a brief interaction with the driver, the vehicle fled. Several officers responded to the area but lost the vehicle for a short amount of time. 

At 6:06 a.m., the vehicle was located crashed into an embankment on Hueseman Road. A perimeter was immediately set up and law enforcement found a deceased male just off the roadway in a wooded area on Texas Gas Road near the intersection with Hueseman. The victim appeared to have suffered multiple gunshot wounds. 

An extensive search for the person of interest, which included a helicopter, drones and K9 units, took place until the suspect was located around 11:12 a.m.

A male suspect is in custody. 

The deceased male was transported to the Hamilton County Morgue for an autopsy. 

Assisting agencies were Indiana State Police, Lawrenceburg Police, Aurora Police, Dillsboro Police, Dearborn County 911 Center, Dearborn County Coroner's Office, Boone County Sheriff's Office, Ohio County Sheriff's Office, and Aurora EMS. 

The investigation is ongoing. An updated press release will be issued once formal charges are filed. 

The names of the individuals involved have not been released at this time.
