(Rising Sun, Ind.) - The Ohio County Community Foundation is pleased to announce that 20 Rising Sun High School Seniors have been awarded a Community/Junior College Dual Enrollment Scholarship. Those students are as follows: Ani Edwards, Abbie Kremer, Alayna Walcott, Nora Powell, Nate Elliott, Jenna Peelman, Emma Russell, Cloe Ballard, Kimberly Wilke, Keira Holbrook, Breanna Reed, Allison Givan, Megan Hayes, Caydence Morris, Vanessa Woodruff, Avery Boes, Makenzie McDaniel, Lillian Akin, Alyssa Simpson and Sianna Kuehn.

In 2015, the City of Rising Sun added a dual enrollment component to the already established Community/Junior College Scholarship Program. This component makes it possible for Rising Sun High School Seniors who are enrolled in the dual enrollment program with IVY Tech- Lawrenceburg to receive funding towards tuition, required fees and books. Eligible students may receive up to $1,000 each.

Seniors attend two classes on campus during their Spring semester. This allows them to get the full college experience while earning both high school and college credits. This year’s dual enrollment students are taking Introduction to Public Speaking and Introduction to Ethics. Since the inception of the dual enrollment program, a total of 138 RSHS students have received funding through the program totaling over $100,000.

The mission of the Ohio County Community Foundation is to build, manage and distribute a lasting source of charitable funds for Ohio County. If you have any questions concerning the Community/Junior College Scholarship program or would like to donate to the fund, please contact Christy Elbright, Administrative Assistant at 438-9401 or by e-mail at celbright@occfrisingsun.com.
