(Greendale, Ind.) - Greendale Police officers had to traverse through backyards and sheds to chase down a home detention escapee late Monday night.

Officers went to a home on Braun Avenue in Greendale at around 10:47 p.m. to perform a routine home visit on Jacob McClellan, 23, according to a news release from Greendale Police Department. However, McClellan allegedly fled from the home when officers arrived.

Other officers from Lawrenceburg and Aurora police departments and the Dearborn County Sheriff’s Department joined in the search as McClellan fled through yards between Hayes Street and Nowlin Avenue.

McClellan’s movements were being tracked thanks to the GPS bracelet he was required to wear. But the GPS unit was eventually found to have been taken off and left in an open garage.

A Lawrenceburg Police K9 began tracking the scent. Soon enough, McClellan was found hiding in a shed. He was taken into custody after about 30 minutes on the run.

“A large police presence was in that area last night.  Greendale Police appreciates immensely the cooperation of the citizens whose yards we were searching and the help from the other police agencies.  We also apologize for any alarm caused by the incident,” said Greendale Police Sergeant Kevin Turner.

McClellan is now in jail at the Dearborn County Law Enforcement Center charged with Escape from Home Detention (level 6 felony), Resisting Law Enforcement (class A misdemeanor), and Possession of Marijuana (class B misdemeanor).
