OCCF Awards Community Grants

A total of $39,678.59 was awarded to 11 non-profits.

(Ohio County, Ind.) - The Ohio County Community Foundation awarded a total of $39,678.59 in Community Grants to 11 local non-profits during the second grant cycle of 2024. Each organization could request up to $5,000.

The following grants were funded through Ohio County Today & Tomorrow Endowment Fund, created by the City of Rising Sun and Ohio County, to fund the pressing needs in Ohio County along with funds from an Unrestricted Fund.

  • Ohio County Historical Society has been awarded $2,000 to purchase new signage for the building.
  • Ohio County Tourism has been awarded $5,000 to hire entertainment for the 2025 Rising Sun Summer Festival.
  • Laughery Creek Fraternal Order of Police has been awarded $5,000 to help fund the 2024 Cops and Kids Program.
  • Dearborn County Clearinghouse has been awarded $479.99 towards the purchase of a security camera to keep their food supplies safe from theft.
  • Rising Sun Kids J.A.M., Inc. has been awarded $3,500.00 to purchase snacks/lesson materials/t-shirts/insurance costs to continue to provide program for the children of the community.
  • South Eastern Indiana Independent Living Center has been awarded $4,945.60 to help fund the Assistive Technology Loaner Program to provide access to wheelchairs, walkers, hospital beds and more.
  • Heart House has been awarded $1,160 towards transportation assistance costs to be able to continue to provide to families and individuals in need.
  • Ohio County Public Library has been awarded $4,843.00 to purchase furniture and labor costs to redesign the front entrance of the library to make for a safer environment to the community.
  • Rising Sun Ohio County School Corporation has been awarded $3,000 to purchase classroom garden towers to be able to have a farm to table learning experience for students.
  • Rising Sun Ohio County Senior Living has been awarded $4,750.00 to purchase upgrades for the Handi-Port Car Ports for the seniors.
  • Rising Sun Church of Christ Outreach Free Store has been awarded $5,000.00 to help with costs to install a restroom facility for community use.

Endowment funds are established within the Ohio County Community Foundation by donors with a vision to create perpetual, charitable funds to be distributed in the form of grants to non-profit organizations whose projects and programs benefit the Ohio County community.

Donations to help grow an endowment fund established within the Ohio County Community Foundation can be made in memory or honor of a loved one and are tax-deductible in most cases.
