Nearly 6" Of Rain Fell In Aurora; Ohio River Still Rising

That was a lot of rain the tri-state received over the weekend.

(Aurora, Ind.) – Feeling water- logged? The leftovers of Tropical Storm Gordon dumped heavy rain across the tri-state this weekend.

The National Weather service says rainfall measurements have ranged from 3.1 inches in Vevay up to 5.8 inches near Aurora over 72 hours. Nearly 4 inches was recorded on Saturday alone at Cincinnati-Northern Kentucky International Airport.

The weather service no longer expects much flooding over area roads but rivers, creeks, and streams remain at or near action stages. The Great Miami River at Miamitown had reached about 14 feet Sunday, sending it into action stage. Water levels are now falling.

The Whitewater River at Brookville is also falling after going into action stage with a crest around 14 feet on Sunday.

However, the Ohio River at Cincinnati is still rising. At about 38.8 feet Monday morning, it won’t crest until it reaches 48.5 feet on Wednesday. Flood stage for the Ohio River is 52 feet.

There are not many roads affected by high water Monday. In Franklin County, Levee Road was closed over the weekend due to flooding.

High waters on Laughery Creek did force a few roads in the Friendship area to shut down over the weekend, but they have reopened. Some of the campgrounds there were flooded during the National Muzzleloading Rifle Association’s Fall National Shoot. Torrential rains also kept big crowds away from the first weekend of the Friendship Flea Market.

The coming week should bring better weather for the events in Friendship. The NMLRA Spring Shoot and Flea Market continue through next Sunday, September 16.

Monday’s forecast includes a slight chance of showers and a high temperature around 70. Much of the rest of the week will include sunny skies and highs in the 80s. View the forecast on Eagle Country 99.3's weather page.
