INDIANAPOLIS – The Indiana Family and Social Services Administration’s Division of Mental Health and Addiction has announced the launch of a new crisis response helpline.
On Saturday, 9-8-8 will go live in Indiana and around the United States as a new national three-digit dialing code to reach the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline.
Hoosiers experiencing mental health-related distress may call 988 to connect with a trained crisis specialist.
In the coming years, the service will be expanded to include a response team and locations where people can go for help.
Development of the complete system is expected to take seven to 10 years.
