(Dillsboro, Ind.) - A large structure fire broke out in Dillsboro yesterday, calling on multiple fire departments for help.

Around 6:45 p.m., smoke and flames were seen coming from a three-story building on the 12000 block of North Street, located next to Deville’s Pharmacy and the United States Post Office. The building involved in the fire contained four apartments above the ground floor.

Difficult conditions hindered the efforts to extinguish the fire. This required fire fighters from 7 different departments to remain on scene through the middle of the night, well after 1:00 a.m.

While the fire was contained to the upper portions of the building, water damage was done to the entirety. Estimated damage is around $240,000.

Three families living in the apartments have been displaced and are now receiving aid from the Greater Cincinnati Tri-State Chapter of the American Red Cross. To donate, call (513) 579-3000 or visit the American Red Cross website.

There were no injuries reported, and the cause of the fire is under investigation by the Indiana State Fire Marshal’s Office.

Dillsboro Fire Department received mutual aid from Aurora, Lawrenceburg, Hogan, Moores Hill, Milan, Friendship, Versailles, and Delaware Fire Department at the scene.

In addition to the fire departments and other agencies listed above, Lieutenant Kevin Turner would like to thank others assisting at the scene including: Dillsboro EMS, Dillsboro Police, Dearborn County Sheriff’s Department, Indiana State Police, Dillsboro Utilities, Duke Energy, Southeastern Indiana Natural Gas, the Aurora Fire Department Auxiliary Unit, and the mothers and wives of Dillsboro Fire Fighters.
