Most Of 16K Hoosiers Joining Workforce In May Found A Job

New state unemployment figures for May have been released.

(Indianapolis, Ind.) - Indiana’s jobless rate has remained below the national unemployment rate for four years.

The Indiana Department of Workforce Development pegged April’s statewide jobless rate at 3.2 percent, unchanged from May, but lower than 3.5 percent recorded in May 2017. It is also lower than the national rate of 3.8 percent.

Indiana’s initial unemployment insurance claims continue to be at historical lows. The state’s labor force increased by nearly 16,000 people over the previous month, with more than 13,000 of them finding work.

Local unemployment figures ranged from 3.2 percent in Ripley and Ohio counties to 3.6 percent in Switzerland County. Dearborn County was unchanged at 3.4 percent. Franklin County increased a point to 3.4 percent.
