More Info Released On Ripley Co. Tornado; NWS Confirms Tornado In Dearborn Co.

The tornadoes caused damage in various areas close to Milan and Moores Hill.

(Wilmington, Oh.) – The National Weather Service (NWS) has released more information about tornadoes that touched down in Eagle Country.

On Monday, the NWS announced that a tornado touched down in Ripley County on Friday around 8:51 p.m.

The tornado was classified as an EF1. The maximum path width was 150 yards, traveling 6.2 miles and reaching maximum wind speed of 110 MPH.

According to the NWS, the first evidence of tornadic damage was observed along E. Prattsburg Road, just east of State Road 129 – where several trees were knocked down.

Damage was noted further southeast along E. Prattsburg Road, where several more trees were down, and a carport was destroyed. One residence along the road experienced minor damage.

The tornado then moved into the Town of Milan, producing sporadic damage along Josephine, Ellsworth, and W. Ellis streets.

The most significant damage was observed along Woolery and Rose streets. Tree damage was extensive with numerous trees snapped or completely knocked down, and  a garage was destroyed at a residence on N. County Road 750 E.

The same storm that produced a tornado in Ripley County, also produced a separate tornado in western Dearborn County.

According to the NWS, the tornado likely began in a wooded area behind Longbranch Road in the Moores Hill area.

The EF1 tornado lasted approximately a minute, traveling just 0.5 miles at an estimated maximum wind speed of 95 MPH.

Damage was reported at two residences on Longbranch Road. Nearly half of a metal roof of one of the residences was lifted and thrown in multiple directions. Trees on both properties were knocked down or blown over in multiple directions.

No injuries or fatalities were reported in either county.
