(Lawrenceburg, Ind.) - Providing an exceptional patient experience is the standard of care for all employees at Highpoint Health. While giving this high level of care to our patients may be the norm for our nurses and caregivers, it doesn’t mean it goes unnoticed by our patients. Simple acts of compassion, respect and understanding may be routine for our patient care staff, but that doesn’t mean that the assistance being provided seems ordinary to the patient.
That’s what Highpoint Health Birthing Center Staff Nurse Andrea Chipman, RN, IBCLC, discovered when she was named the hospital’s most recent DAISY Award recipient.
Mrs. Chipman was selected for the DAISY Award by a mother who wrote glowing comments about the nurse on the nomination application. The mother wrote of her labor and delivery, “She walked me through the entire process step by step. She kept me calm and made sure I was well-informed on everything that was happening or that I needed to do. Any questions I had were given very thorough answers.”
The patient also wrote that Mrs. Chipman understood her needs both before and after the baby’s birth. “She appreciated the fact that I would anticipate what she needed and would explain what would happen during a procedure. Even though a delivery can occur quickly, one can still take the time to tell the mother what is happening,” Mrs. Chipman explained.
Highpoint Health has been honoring its nurses quarterly with the DAISY Award since 2016.
DAISY stands for Diseases Attacking the Immune System. The DAISY Foundation, headquartered in Glen Ellen, California, recognizes nurses around the world for outstanding care and dedication to their patients.
DAISY Award recipients receive a certificate proclaiming them as an “Extraordinary Nurse,” DAISY Award pin, hand-carved serpentine stone sculpture from Zimbabwe entitled, “A Healer’s Touch,” and, of course, daisies. In addition, they are featured on the DAISY Foundation’s website at daisyfoundation.org. A special feature of all DAISY celebrations are the Cinnabon® rolls available to all who attend.

Mrs. Chipman and her husband live on a small farm in Dewberry, Indiana. They have five daughters, 11 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
