Press release from Milan '54 Museum

Hoosier Gym in Knightstown, Indiana

(Milan, Ind.) - A pair of historic Hoosier high school basketball games will play out three days after Christmas, delivering a belated gift to Indiana basketball fans everywhere.

The Milan ‘54/Hickory Museum is sponsoring its first annual basketball invitational event. The event is the first of its kind to be hosted at the Hoosier Gym in Knightstown, Indiana, on Wednesday, December 28. The Hoosier Gym, 355 North Washington Street, was home to the fictional Hickory Huskers (Milan) featured in the movie, “Hoosiers”.

This year’s event will feature two games. The first game will begin at 5 p.m. and will pit Brebeuf Jesuit against Oldenburg Academy. The second game will match Crispus Attucks with Milan at 7:30 p.m.

Several Indiana legends and other special guests will be in attendance for the event.

Doors will open at 2 p.m. An autograph session for the general public takes place 2-4 p.m. for items purchased at this event. There will be a special autograph session for all the team players participating in the contests from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. After the second game is completed, the public can once again obtain autographs in a designated area.

Proceeds from this event will help the Milan ‘54/Hickory Museum move to a larger facility, helping to reestablish an important part of Hoosier heritage, according to Jerry Jackson, a fundraising consultant who is organizing the event.

Tickets ($25 each) are now available through the following contacts: Jerry Jackson (812-525-2243 or email at Jrrtrgt@aol.com), Knightstown Banner (765-571-2168), Milan / Hickory Museum (812-654-2772), and Katherine Taul at Ripley County Tourism Bureau (888-747- 5394).

The Milan versus Crispus Attucks game will be heard live on Eagle 99.3 at 7:10 p.m. on Wednesday, December 28.
