INDIANAPOLIS – Two area high school football teams have been recognized for serving others.

The Indiana Football Coaches Association recently released its 2023 “Good Works” Team to recognize players, groups and entire teams that served their communities in extraordinary ways.

Milan and Batesville made the “Good Works” Team for their Turnover Hunger Program administered through the Ripley County Community Foundation.

The program accepts donations or pledges for every turnover the Indians and Bulldogs’ varsity teams force in a given season.

In 2023, the teams combined to force 53 turnovers, resulting in $25,000 in donations. The money was split evenly between Batesville Primary School, Jac-Cen-Del Elementary School, Milan Elementary School, South Ripley Elementary School, and Sunman Elementary School to support the Weekend Backsack Program.

The grant dollars are used to support students who suffer from severe food insecurity with a backpack of kid-friendly, nonperishable food for the weekend.
