By Margaret Mary Health, news release

The decision is in response to surging COVID-19 numbers.

(Batesville, Ind.) - In response to the current surge in COVID-19 cases, Margaret Mary Health (MMH) will be postponing all elective surgeries requiring an inpatient stay until January 10, 2022, at which time the inpatient volumes will be reassessed to determine ability to care for patients requiring an inpatient stay post-surgery. Elective same-day surgeries that do not require an overnight stay will continue as scheduled. In addition, hysterectomy patients will continue as planned, with post-surgical inpatient care being provided within our Maternity unit. Patients impacted by cancellations and rescheduling of surgeries will be contacted by MMH staff directly.

According to Liz Leising, Interim CEO and President of MMH, “While we hate to do this, it is the reality of the situation we are in. We simply do not have the room right now to care for anyone in our inpatient unit who is not in need of critical acute care. We understand it can be frustrating for patients who have planned for these surgeries and who are also potentially managing ongoing pain. I wish we could offer them an option to continue their surgery as planned, but at this point in time, it just doesn’t exist. We have exceeded our limits and all services that require inpatient care that can be postponed must be until this surge subsides.”
