(Dearborn County, Ind.) - What is a pound of methamphetamine worth? Fifty years in prison, apparently.

Bill Conn, Jr. received that sentence on Thursday, August 1 from Dearborn Circuit Court Judge James D. Humphrey.

Police stopped Conn, 35, of Harrison, on Interstate 74 in August 2018. In his vehicle officers found more than a pound of meth.

Conn took his case to a jury trial, which ended July 3 with jurors convicting him of Dealing in Methamphetamine (level 2 felony) and being a habitual offender. The two convictions combined meant 50 years was the maximum sentence he faced and eventually received.

In sentencing Conn, Humphrey noted his extensive criminal history, which includes 14 prior felony convictions and 10 prior misdemeanors throughout Indiana, Ohio and Kentucky. He was also on probation at the time he was found in possession of meth in Indiana.

“Thanks to the work of the Indiana State Police and specifically Troopers James Wells and Jordan Craig, Billy Joe Conn, Jr. was stopped while in possession of over one pound of crystal methamphetamine before he had a chance to spread his wares in any of our communities here in the tri-state,” said Dearborn-Ohio County Prosecutor Lynn Deddens in a news release announcing Conn’s sentence.

Deddens also acknowledged the work of deputy prosecutors Blaine Burgess and Andrew Krumwied.
