Longtime Community Servant Nelson Elliott Passes Away At 80

Nelson was a former on-air personality and salesperson at WSCH.

(Lawrenceburg, Ind.) - A former teacher, principal, businessman and WSCH on-air personality has passed away.

Nelson E. Elliott died at the age of 80 in Lawrenceburg on Saturday.

Elliott, an Aurora native, graduated from Lawrenceburg High School in 1956. After graduating from Hanover College in 1960, Elliott worked as the Band and Choir Director at Dillsboro Public School. He would hold the same title at Batesville High School before becoming the principal at Moores Hill Public Schools. 

From 1977 - 1984, Elliott was the operating partner of Ewing’s Produce and Nursery in Aurora and Green Thumb Garden Center in Dillsboro. From there, he received his Indiana Auctioneers License, and started "Nelson Elliott Auction Team".

Elliott was a man of many talents which helped him land a position as an on-air personality and salesman at WSCH. 

He also Elliott played taps for Military Funerals, Memorial Day, and Veterans Day programs for more than 50 years,

Elliott was a member of the Board of Directors Southeastern Indiana Musicians Hall of Fame, and was inducted as a member of the Hall of Fame in 2004.

In addition, Nelson was the Past Master of Ceremonies/Announcer for: Versailles Pumpkin Show, Aurora Farmers Fair, Milan 4th of July Parade, Aurora Firecracker Festival, Aurora Thunder On The River Regatta, Lawrenceburg Fall Festival, Lawrenceburg Music on the River (10 years), Hidden Valley Lake Memorial Day Services, Dillsboro Homecoming, Dearborn 4-H and Community Fairs.

Visitation for Elliott will be held Wednesday from 4 to 8 PM at Carnegie Hall in Moores Hill. 

Contributions may be made to Carnegie Hall or Local Color Guard Squads. If unable to attend services, please call the funeral home office at (812) 926-1450 and we will notify the family of your donation with a card.

Funeral services will be Thursday at 11:00 am at Rullman Hunger Funeral Home in Aurora.
