Lifelong Dearborn Co. Resident Receives Stem Cell Transplant Through Be The Match Program

(Houston, Tx.) - A lifelong Dearborn County resident is celebrating her new birthday.

Kristie Gilb is currently in Houston, Texas, where she received a life saving stem cell transplant thanks to a donor and the Be The Match organization.

Gilb was diagnosed in May of 2019 with Myelofibrosis (MF), which is a Myeloproliferative Neoplasm (MPN). The condition impacts bone marrow and the production of much needed cells.

On Wednesday, Gilb had stem cells infused. She is expected to get platelets again today and then some more chemo in the next few days to help prevent graft vs. host disease.

Going forward, November 17 will be known as Kristie's new birthday.
