Legendary Lawrenceburg Football Coach Dick Meador Passes Away

He will certainly be missed, but never forgotten.

(Lawrenceburg, Ind.) - The Lawrenceburg community has lost a legendary coach and an even better man.

Two-time state championship coach and Indiana Football Hall of Famer Dick Meador reportedly passed away at the age of 83 on Sunday.

Meador is known best for leading Lawrenceburg High School to win the IHSAA Football State Championship in 1975 and 1978. During his 12 seasons at Lawrenceburg, Meador led the Tigers to eight undefeated and a 59-game winning streak. The Tigers also won the EIAC Championship 11 times.

His coaching career spanned 21 years in total, with stops at Bicknell, North Knox and Fort Wayne North, where he went 137-20-2, earning a spot in Indiana Football Hall of Fame in 1989.

Coach Meador is also credited as being one of the trailblazers for developing players and programs through a year-round strength and conditioning program that you see many schools use today.

His love for strength trainer went far behind coaching. In 2006, he sold Meador Fitness Center after several years in business.

Visitation for Coach Meador will be held on Saturday, June 30 from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. at the Lawrenceburg High School gym.
