(Lawrenceburg, Ind.) – Designs are in for what a new splash park at the City of Lawrenceburg’s pool will look like.

Lawrenceburg Common Council members received renderings of the pirate-themed water playground at their regular meeting on Monday, November 5. City construction manager Mario Todd also shared that the cost of the splash park, as presented, is $1.1 million, right at the amount council approved in August.

The proposed final design from HWC Engineering includes a pirate ship structure in the center of a shallow pool. The ship will include a slide and a transfer station for lifting up wheelchair-bound visitors. A soft-deck surface will cover much of the ground.

"It will be one heck of a splash park. One of a kind," said councilman Tony Abbott, who first proposed the new splash park.

The splash park will fit within the footprint of the current splash pad area at Pat O’Neill Memorial Pool.

The board did not vote to approve the design. Todd cautioned that approval must be given by November 19 in order to keep the project on schedule.

If they do, the splash park is expected to be open to little swimmers by next summer.
