Lawrenceburg Police Announce Drug Takeback Record

This was the largest Drug Takeback Event that the Lawrenceburg Police have participated in.

(Lawrenceburg, Ind.) - The Lawrenceburg Police were thrilled with the awesome work the state of Indiana did when it came to the Drug Takeback, especially right here in Dearborn County.

Last Thursday, Police Chief Don Combs proudly announced that Lawrenceburg collected 54.1 pounds of the 8 tons collected in the state of Indiana.

The amount that was collected in Lawrenceburg on October 26 was 10 pounds more than what was collected last year.

Combs wants to remind the community that these takeback days are not the only days to safely dispose of your medications. The Police Department is collecting unused and expired medications everyday of the week.

Olin Clawson, Lawrenceburg Utility Director, added to the importance of this initiative. He says, "It's a great program, not only because we are getting drugs from people who aren't using them anymore, but the thing that people use to do was flush them down the toilet." Clawson tells us that this causes more problems than we can even think of. "You can't understand the amount of problems that causes us in our water systems and at the sewer plant. It would actually shock you if you knew the impact that people flushing prescription drugs and the chemicals that are in them down the toilet. It's helpful in many ways."

To safely dispose of your medications, please reach out to your police departments.
