Lawrenceburg Man Busted On Drug Charges After Fleeing Police

The police pursuit took place on U.S. 50 in Greendale after a tip about an impaired driver.

(Greendale, Ind.) - A Lawrenceburg man's attempt to flee police didn't last long.

Nicholas Kephart, 33, was arrested by Greendale Police on April 4 after receiving a tip about an impaired driver traveling down the Interstate 275 ramp to U.S. 50 in Greendale.

The description of the vehicle was a white Nissan bearing a Pennsylvania license plate, being driven by a white male and swerving all over the road.

Greendale Police say they first initiated the traffic stop on U.S. 50 at McClure Way, but the driver, Kephart, refused to pull over. Kephart eventually took a right-hand turn into Haag Ford.

Once he got towards the back of the lot, police say he exited his vehicle and ran towards the Lawrencburg Fairgrounds. Police say Kephart ran with a "slow jog" until he got to the main gate of the fairgrounds where he was taken into custody.

During the arrest, police learned that Kephart had a warrant out of Dearborn County, a suspended license and a warrant out of the State of Florida. He was also allegedly found in possession of a syringe and other drug paraphernalia.

Kephart is charged with Possession of a Narcotic Drug (Heroin) (level 6 felony), Possession of a Syringe (level 6 felony), Resisting Law Enforcement (Vehicle) (level 6 felony), Resisting Law Enforcement (Flee) (Class A misdemeanor), Maintaining a Common Nuisance (level 6 felony), Operating While Suspended (Class A misdemeanor) and Possession of Paraphernalia (Class C misdemeanor).

He is currently being held in the Dearborn County Law Enforcement Center on $25,000 cash and $35,000 surety bond.

Kephart is due in court for a pre-trial hearing on May 20.
