Lawrenceburg Fire Dept. To Operate With One Less Part-Time Employee

The cut leaves three on-duty firefighters.

(Lawrenceburg, Ind.) - The City of Lawrenceburg has made a tough decision to reduce part-time fire department personnel.

Lawrenceburg Fire Department will operate with one less part-time employee, leaving just three on-duty personnel to fight fires and assist with EMS services. The on-duty personnel is made up of two full-time employees and one part-timer.

Under state statutes, fire departments are only required to have two firefighters on a truck to respond to a call.

City of Lawrenceburg Mayor Kelly Mollaun says the structural change at the Lawrenceburg Fire Department won’t affect call times.

"The City is making some temporary changes so that we can protect the public and protect our employees while continuing to provide all of the important services to the community," said Mayor Mollaun. "Our citizens will continue to get all the services they need and won't see a difference at all. While many employers are being forced to cut hours or layoff employees, we are ensuring that all of our employees keep working and continue to get their pay. We are committed to doing what is necessary to get through this difficult and unprecedented time and we will do that by working together for the greater good."
