Laurel Man Killed in Near Head-On Collision

The crash happened Friday morning near the Jefferson Proving Grounds.

(Jefferson County, Ind.) - Indiana State Police responded to a two-vehicle crash on U.S. 421 near Madison on Friday morning. 

According to a news release, Charles Hunter, 23, of Laurel, was killed in a near head-on collision. 

The initial investigation indicated that Hunter was southbound on U.S. 421 near the Jefferson Proving Grounds entrance when he vehicle crossed the center line and collided with a vehicle driven by Antonio Lopez, 64, of Vancouver, Washington. 

As result of the impact, Hunter suffered fatal injuries. He was pronounced dead at the scene. 

Lopez sustained minor injuries and was transported to King's Daughters' Hospital in Madison. 

Speed and alcohol are not believed to be factors. Although, toxicology results are pending. 

The accident remains under investigation.
