(Petersburg, Ky.) - Over the past 1.5 weeks, crews have returned to the Carroll Cropper Bridge to begin the next steps of the bridge repair project. That includes repairs on three additional expansion joints, and the finalization of the T-1 steel repairs that were set out in the original project proposal.

The design team, KYTC and the contractor are developing a shoring plan for the floor beam repairs that would be accessible from the bridge deck. The shoring plan is expected to be finalized in the coming days and will not need environmental clearance since the work will not be performed from the ground level.

"Our ultimate goal is to perform this work now... to ensure the bridge is in good condition ahead of the upcoming Brent Spence Bridge Corridor Project, when we anticipate an influx in vehicles using I-275 to avoid some of the construction," reads a statement from the KYTC. "We understand the frustration drivers have regarding traffic backups. Folks are encouraged to plan ahead and leave plenty of time to arrive to their destination. The majority of crashes that have taken place in the work zone have been in the area where vehicles are down to a single lane prior to the bridge approaches. We encourage everyone to always be alert when driving, leave plenty of extra space from the vehicle ahead of you, and to drive without distractions – especially in work zones."

The repairs listed above are scheduled to be completed this fall.

The KYTC anticipates having a better targeted completion date once the fabricated steel arrives on-site for the floor beam repairs.
