Ky. Man Charged For Fatal DUI Crash

(West Harrison, Ind.) - A Kentucky man is being charged for a deadly drunk driving crash in West Harrison.

Last September 27, Larry A. Gentry, of Mount Vernon, Ky., was driving a 2001 Oldsmobile on Carolina Trace Road in Franklin County when the vehicle crested a hill. Gentry, 45, lost control of the vehicle which then veered off the road, struck an embankment, and overturned.

The Oldsmobile rolled until it grazed a utility pole and struck a tree. Front seat passenger Calvin Offill, 58, of West Harrison, was taken to a hospital where he died of his injuries. Gentry suffered only minor injuries.

When asked by deputies at the scene, Gentry, 45, denied drinking and driving, but a blood draw following the crash showed his BAC was .14. Indiana’s legal driving limit is .08.

A warrant was issued February 14 charging Gentry with Operating a Motor Vehicle While Intoxicated Causing Death (Class B felony), Operating a Motor Vehicle While Intoxicated Causing Death with a BAC .08 or More (Class C felony), and Operating While Intoxicated (Class B felony).

Gentry was arrested March 21. He has since bonded out of the Franklin County Jail.
