Kentucky Residents Warned Of Social Security Scam

If someone asks you for your social security number over the phone, hang up.

(Frankfort, Ky.) - Kentucky residents are being warned about an active phone scam.

Kentucky Attorney General Andy Beshear announced Monday that at least one Kentucky resident recently lost 600 dollars to a scam, where callers are claiming to be with the Social Security Administration.

The scammers are asking for residents to pay a fee to get a new social security number and card.

Anyone who receives such a call is urged to hang up the phone and contact their local police department.
