Kentucky Governor Shuts Down Bars & Restaurants

Gov. Beshear's announcement comes on the heels of Ohio Governor Mike DeWine closing Ohio bars and restaurants.

(Frankfort, Ky.) - Bars and restaurants are being shut down in Kentucky.

Governor Andy Beshear announced Monday morning that all bars and restaurants will be closed to in-person traffic across the state. Customers may purchase food for takeout.

Beshear added that he hopes to have all restaurants and bars closed by 5:00 p.m. and that he is waiving the period of unemployment in the state.

"I am not going to be the governor who acts two weeks too late," said Beshear. "I will continue to act swiftly to limit the spread and reduce the risk to Kentuckians, particularly those vulnerable populations. My promise to Kentuckians is we will work through this together and make sure we get through this."

Beshear's announcement comes on the heels of Ohio Governor Mike DeWine closing down the state's bars and restaurants.

Indiana Governor Eric Holcomb could be next. He is scheduled to give a news briefing at 2:30 this afternoon.
