Judge: I-Beam Thief Must Pay Back $7.8K

Bradley Lusby

Dearborn County Law Enforcement Center

(Sunman, Ind.) - A Sunman man who stole thousands of dollars of supplies from the Dearborn County Highway Department has been sentenced.

Bradley Lusby was arrested last September, just days after 900 steel I-beams valued at $10 each were discovered stolen from the county highway garage on County Farm Road in Manchester.

Lusby, 30, negotiated a plea deal with prosecutors for one count of Receiving Stolen Property, a Class D felony.

Dearborn Superior Court I Judge Jonathan Cleary handed Lusby a three year sentence on Friday. He must serve 270 days on intensive in-home incarceration with South East Regional Community Corrections and 703 days on probation.

He was given credit for 392 days already served in jail while awaiting the outcome of his case.

About 200 of the steel beams – used to post guardrails along roads and bridges – were recovered, but almost 700 are still unaccounted for. Lusby must pay $7,829.60 in restitution to the county highway department for the unrecovered beams and department labor to recover the remaining beams.

Lusby ordered to pay back $75 a week until the full amount is met. His first payment is due March 30.
