January IN Unemployment Drops To 3.1%, Lowest In 20 Years

Indiana's unemployment rate remains lower than the national average of 3.6%.

(Indianapolis, Ind.) - Indiana's January unemployment rate hit a 20-year low of 3.1 percent. 

This 3.1 percent continues to be lower than the national unemployment rate of 3.6 percent. 

November 2000 was the last time Indiana's unemployment rate was lower than 3.1 percent. 

The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) reports the number of unemployed people actively seeking employment within the prior four weeks as a percentage of the labor force. 

Indiana’s labor force had a net increase of 3,749 last month. This was a result of a decrease of 877 unemployed residents and an increase of 4,626 employed residents.

In total, the state’s labor force stands at 3.39 million and Indiana’s 64.4 percent labor force participation rate remains above the national rate of 63.4 percent.
