Ivy Tech President Issues Statement Regarding Supreme Court Admissions Decision

On Thursday, the U.S. Supreme Court rejected the use of race as a factor in college admissions.

INDIANAPOLIS – Ivy Tech Community College has issued a statement following an U.S. Supreme Court ruling on affirmative action.

On Thursday, the U.S. Supreme Court rejected the use of race as a factor in college admissions as a violation of the 14th Amendment’s Equal Protection Clause.

The majority ruled with a 6-3 vote to reject affirmative action.

The decision comes after two separate legal challenges regarding how Harvard University and the University of North Carolina decide who fills their classrooms.

Ivy Tech President, Dr. Sue Ellspermann released the following statement:

“Ivy Teach is an open admissions institution. This decision will not affect our admissions process. Ivy Tech will continue our commitment to ensuring all Hoosiers have high value post-secondary and career opportunities.”
