Enroll now for classes beginning March 16.

(Lawrenceburg, Ind.) - Ivy Tech Community College has been on a quest to ensure we are the college our students need us to be. Two years ago Ivy Tech began an intentional transition to 8-week length of courses rather than 16-weeks. Like much of K-16 education, 16-weeks is based on the agrarian model. As a result, text book content is broken into 16 chapters. Did you ever wonder if that is the best way? And, why is the rhythm fall, spring, summer?

We, along with many other post-secondary institutions, saw that adults succeed at higher rates in an 8-week format. Most graduate programs use 8 (or less) week terms. It is more focused and faster to complete. For working adults, that means less time for life to get in the way. Part-time students focus on just one class at a time. Full-time students focus on just 2-3 classes at a time. Students complete faster.

Ivy Tech now offers more than half of all courses in the 8-week format. Does it work? Yes! Students are passing at significantly higher rates and dropping fewer classes. A majority of students also say they like this new format. Students are more engaged. Our faculty have done yeoman’s work redesigning for 8-weeks and helping students succeed in this new rhythm.

Another benefit is that students can now enroll 5 times a year, not just 3! So, if you are thinking about coming back to school, know someone who should be going back to earn or finish a credential, or want to accelerate your current degree, enroll now for classes beginning March 16.  No need to wait until the summer to get started – start in March. With Next Level Jobs, Volunteer Firefighter scholarships, state and federal aid, and many other programs, you may be pleasantly surprised to find you can do so for free.
