(Madison, Ind.) - An Indiana State Trooper was shot during a standoff with an armed suspect near Madison.
Troopers with the Indiana State Police Versailles Post, along with officers from Madison Police Department, Jefferson County Sheriff's Office and Switzerland County Sheriff's Office responded to the 8000 block of East State Road 56 in eastern Jefferson County on Saturday around 2:30 a.m.
Multiple reports suggested that a male suspect had fired shots inside a residence.
Officers determined the male suspect to be Wade R. Roark, 59.
Indiana State Police SWAT was called to the scene as Roark continued to fire shots inside the residence.
At approximately 8:00 a.m., a member of ISP SWAT was shot in the leg while outside the home. A second trooper returned fire but Roark was not struck by gunfire. Roark soon exited the residence and was taken into custody by law enforcement.
The SWAT member struck by gunfire was transported to King's Daughters' Hospital in Madison, then transferred to UC Medical Center for what is believed to be non-life-threatening injuires.
Charges are pending against Roark.
