Zac Andry was shot four times on Jan. 3 when assisting what looked to be a disabled vehicle.
(Orange County, Ind.) – An Orange County, Indiana deputy sheriff remains in critical condition after being shot multiple times in the early morning hours of January 3.
Deputy Zac Andry had stopped just before 1:00 a.m. with what appeared to be a disabled vehicle in the roadway at the intersection of U.S. Highway 150 and State Road 56 in Orange County.
While interacting with the driver, Austin Schepers, Andry was shot four times, including once in the head.
Schepers fled from the scene. He sustained a fatal gunshot wound by law enforcement during an encounter the following day.
Deputy Andry continues to be listed in critical but stable condition in intensive care at the University of Louisville Hospital. He is under sedation and is being assisted with the use of a ventilator.
According to a news release from Indiana State Police, doctors remain optimistic with the amount of fight that Andry continues to put forth towards his recovery.
