INDOT Plans Chip Seal Project On State Road 56

Work will be done in both Switzerland and Ohio counties.

(Switzerland/Ohio County, Ind.) – Motorists will want to take it a little slower on State Road 56 next week.

Indiana Department of Transportation maintenance crews plan to begin chip seal operations as early as Tuesday, July 27 on State Road 56 in Switzerland and Ohio counties.

The work will take place between State Road 250 in East Enterprise to just west of State Road 262, near Glen Meadow Drive in Rising Sun.

Chip seal operations typically last around three to four days depending on weather. Work is completed under lane closures with flagging to prevent damage to both vehicles and the roadway.

The cost-effective pavement preservation technique is utilized across the state, saving an estimated six to 14 dollars in taxpayer expenditures for every dollar invested in extending the life of a roadway.

Motorists are urged to slow their speed, watch for stopped traffic and drive distraction free in and near all work zones.

All work is weather permitting.
