If you are traveling this weekend, INDOT has a few reminders and tips for you.
(Indianapolis, Ind.) – The Indiana Department of Transportation is reminding Hoosiers to plan ahead and be safe on roadways this holiday weekend.
Memorial Day weekend traditionally marks the ceremonial start to summer as travel season ramps up. This year, a record 37.6 million Americans are expected to take road trips this weekend, according to AAA.
INDOT urges drivers to plan extra travel time, to stay informed on road conditions and to drive safely.
Where possible, highway maintenance activities and construction projects will halt work during the holiday weekend to increase mobility and safety. However, some restrictions and reduced speed limits will remain in place due to ongoing road construction.
Locally, Interstate 74 in Decatur and Ripley counties will have lane restrictions between exits 143 and 156 near Batesville.
Race fans driving to Indianapolis 500 festivities this weekend are advised to plan their routes to the track and designate a sober driver.
Indiana State Police will also be participating in the national Click It or Ticket mobilization through June 2.
