The state’s jobless rate dropped to 6.4 percent for August, according to the Indiana Department of Workforce Development.
Indiana’s unemployment rate is down from 7.9 percent in July and remains below the national rate of 8.4 percent.
Among neighboring states, Kentucky has the next best unemployment rate at 7.6 percent. Ohio’s jobless rate stands at 8.9 percent as of August.
Indiana’s labor force had a net increase of 41,752 over the previous month. In total, the state’s labor force stands at 3.36 million, and the state’s 63.5 percent labor force participation rate is above the national rate of 61.7 percent.
Locally, unemployment rates ranged from 4.5 percent in Franklin County to 6.5 percent in Ohio County.
