Indiana Officials Hope To Open COVID-19 Vaccinations To All Hoosier Adults By May

Gov. Eric Holcomb held his weekly COVID-19 update on Wednesday.

(Indianapolis, Ind.) – Indiana Governor Eric Holcomb is hoping the COVID-19 vaccine will be available to all Hoosier adults later this spring.

At his weekly news briefing on Wednesday, the governor along with Dr. Kristina Box, said the state is working to open vaccinations to all adults by May 1.

Opening vaccinations to all Hoosier adults will be contingent on supply.

In just three months’ time, nearly 2.2 million doses of vaccine have been administered throughout the state, representing nearly 20 percent of Indiana’s population.

Vaccinations by age group:

  • Ages 80 and up, 72 percent vaccinated
  • Ages 70-79, 75 percent vaccinated
  • Ages 60-69, 63 percent vaccinated
  • Ages 50-59, 43 percent vaccinated
  • Ages 45-49, 23 percent vaccinated

The COVID-19 just recently opened up for the 45-49 age group. Teachers and school staff have also been added to the eligibility list.

The Indiana State Department of Health announced Wednesday that pregnant women are now eligible to receive the vaccine. A doctor must submit patient information to the health department in order for pregnant women to receive a unique registration link.
