INDIANAPOLIS - Over 100 Indiana National Guardsmen answered the call to help their fellow Hoosiers during the snowstorm that hit central and southern Indiana on Sunday.

The Hoosier Guardsmen, along with Indiana State Police and Indiana Department of Homeland Security personnel, assisted stranded motorists during the winter emergency.

"This is what the Indiana National Guard excels at - helping our fellow Hoosiers in their time of need," said Maj. Gen. Dale Lyles, Indiana National Guard adjutant general. "We live here, we work here and most importantly serve here in times of crises, like this winter storm."

The Hoosier National Guard assistance teams were based in armories in Bedford, Edinburgh, Evansville, Indianapolis, New Albany, Shelbyville and Washington. Hoosier Guardsmen assisted approximately 50 motorists over the 48-hour mission.

The Indiana National Guard was activated by Governor Holcomb.
