(Washington, D.C.) – Indiana leaders are reacting to the confirmation of Supreme Court Justice Amy Coney Barrett.

Barrett was officially sworn in as an Associate Justice on the U.S. Supreme Court in a private ceremony on Tuesday.

This comes after the Senate confirmed Barrett with a final vote of 52-48. Barrett will replace longtime Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, who passed away on September 18.

U.S. Senator Todd Young (R-Indiana) was among the 52 U.S. Senators to confirm Barrett’s nomination.

“Tonight, I proudly cast my vote for Supreme Court nominee, and fellow Hoosier, Judge Amy Coney Barrett,” said Young. “Throughout the confirmation process, Judge Barrett has more than proven her credentials to sit on the highest court in the land. This is a proud day for Indiana, as one of our own will soon be sworn in as the next Supreme Court Associate Justice.”

Barrett is a New Orleans native with ties to Indiana. She graduated from Notre Dame Law School in 1997 at the top of her class. She has also served as Professor of Law at Notre Dame Law School.

Indiana Governor Eric Holcomb issued the following statement about Barrett’s confirmation:

“Judge Amy Coney Barrett is another in a long line of Hoosiers prepared to make our state proud at the federal level. I’m confident her experience and intellect will continue to guide her as she welcomes this new, awesome responsibility. I wish her all the best as she serves our nation on the Supreme Court of the United States.”
