Indiana Governor Releases Statement on Overruling of Roe v. Wade

The 50-year-old right to abortion was overturned on Friday.

INDIANAPOLIS – Indiana Governor Eric Holcomb has released a statement regarding the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade.

"The Supreme Court’s decision is clear, and it is now up to the states to address this important issue. We’ll do that in short order in Indiana. I’ve already called the General Assembly back on July 6, and I expect members to take up this matter as well.

I have been clear in stating I am pro-life. We have an opportunity to make progress in protecting the sanctity of life, and that’s exactly what we will do."

Roe v. Wade had permitted abortions during the first two trimesters of pregnancy in the U.S. since 1973.

The 50-year-old right was overturned in a 6-3 decision on Friday.

The ruling gives individual states the power to set their own abortion laws. According to multiple reports, almost half of the states are expected to outlaw or severely restrict abortion.
