(Indianapolis, Ind.) – A bill that would allow weapons training for school employees has passed a major hurdle.
The Indiana Senate passed House Bill 1253 by a vote of 32-14 on Tuesday.
House Bill 1253 would allow schools to use money received from the Indiana Safe Schools Fund to pay for weapons training for school employees.
The legislation also permits the use of shooting projectiles at teachers and staff during shooter training.
State Sen. Jean Leising (R-Oldenburg), Chip Perfect (R-Lawrenceburg) and Jeff Raatz (R-Richmond) all voted in favor of the bill.
One opposition says safe storage requirements for guns should have been included in the legislation, citing stats on shootings by kids, including school shootings and suicides.
