I-74 Batesville Ramp Closure Rescheduled Due To Weather

By Indiana Department of Transportation, news release

The ramp closure that was supposed to start on September 30 will now wait until October 7.

(Batesville, Ind.) - Indiana Department of Transportation’s contractor for the $61 million pavement replacement project on Interstate 74 between Exit 143 at New Point and Exit 156 at State Road 101 will delay scheduled ramp closures at Batesville one week because of weather delays impacting paving operations.

The eastbound I-74 off- and on-ramp closures at Exit 149 accessing S.R. 229 are now slated to begin at 11:30 p.m. Sunday, October 7.

This closure is expected to be in effect for 15 days.  Eastbound motorists should use S.R. 46 as an alternate route—accessing I-74 via open ramps at New Point and S.R. 101.

During the closures at Batesville, Milestone crews will remove existing asphalt pavement at the ramp area, pour new concrete lanes and place asphalt wedges to compensate for grade differences where new pavement connects with temporary median crossover lanes.

Eastbound I-74 thru-traffic has been routed to a single lane on the north side of the interstate while the I-74’s south side is rebuilt during this year’s construction season.  In 2019, all traffic—both eastbound and westbound—will be routed to south-side lanes while crews remove and replace I-74 pavement on the north side.

All I-74 lanes will be open during this winter’s hiatus.
