House Votes Against School Bus Fees

(Indianapolis, Ind.) - Lawmakers at the Statehouse say they don't want to see public school districts charging parents for taking kids to and from school.

The Indiana House on Monday voted 92-2 to ban districts from charging fees for transportation.

The issue became a hot one when Franklin Township Schools in Marion County enacted a fee of $47.50 for one student and $40.50 for each additional child for the year.

District officials blamed voters, who turned down a referendum to fund the buses last year.
