Hillforest Receives Indiana Humanities CARE Grant

Hillforest Historical Foundation was one of 74 organizations that received funding.

(Aurora, Ind.) - Just in time for its 165th Anniversary, one of Dearborn County's top National Historic Landmark received CARE funding to ease the stress of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Of the $500,000 being distributed to 74 organizations across Indiana by Indiana Humanities, a $5,000 grant has been given to Hillforest Historical Foundation.

"Hillforest Historical Foundation is very appreciative to have selected a recipient of the CARES grant through Indiana Humanities and funded by the National Endowment for the Humanities. The grant will help alleviate the impact of the Coronavirus pandemic resulting in thousands of dollars of lost income," says Dearborn County Convention, Visitor & Tourism Bureau Executive Director, Debbie Smith.

These Indiana Humanities CARES Grants, provided by the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH), will issue important funding relief for nonprofit organizations that provide public humanities programming.

Awards given range from $1,000 to $15,000 based on the size of the organization's budget. These grants were awarded to large and small groups that provide a variety of programming in each congressional district and in 48 of Indiana's 92 counties.

Over $1.3 million in funding was requested by 186 applicants, with $11.7 million worth of losses to date reported. Nearly $50 million is expected to be lost through September 30.

Starting on Tuesday, June 16, the Hillforest Victorian House Museum will reopen for its 64th touring season, with safety guidelines in place.  Tour size will be limited, and masks are required for guests

Group tours are welcome by appointment.  Visit hillforest.org or call (812) 926-0087 for more information.
