(Hebron, Ky.) - A Hebron man was arrested after attempting burglary against an armed homeowner.

On Saturday, May 2, around 2:00 p.m., Boone County Sheriff's Office deputies were dispatched to the 9200 block of River Road in Hebron for a reported burglary in progress with shots fired.

Upon arrival to the scene, deputies found the homeowner subduing the suspect, later identified as David Whitford, 29, of Hebron.

An investigation found that Whitford attempted to force entry into the home on River Road and was confronted by the owner armed with a handgun.

Whitford fled the area towards the riverbank as the homeowner fired several warning shots. The homeowner searched for the attempted burglar and found him hiding in a wooded area.

After firing several more warning shots, the homeowner grabbed Whitford which started a physical struggle between the two.

As a result of the struggle, Whitford sustained head and facial injuries and was transported to St. Elizabeth in Florence. The homeowner refused medical treatment at the scene.

Whitford was charged with Burglary 2nd Degree (Class C Felony) and is being held at the Boone County Detention Center.
